Florina and the Wild Bird Reviews
Like "A Bell for Ursli", Florina's story is an absolute classic as well. With books from Alois Carigiet you can never go wrong. Kids and parents love them. A perfect gift.
Superschön illustriertes und hinreissend geschriebenes Kinderbuch. Für die Kleinen von 3 - 5 auf jeden Fall super zum Vorlesen am Abend auch wenn es ein bißchen länger dauert.
I have to give every one of the 6 of Alois Carigiet's children's books 5 stars for their gorgeous, charming and enlightening illustrations of children's life in the Swiss alps. Carigiet is a master artist, and his love of the region where he grew up shines through. In this book, we meet Florina, Ursli's younger sister, as the family goes up the mountain to spend the summer taking the goats to forage in the pastures near their summer house, and gathering hay to feed them in the wintertime in their lower village home.Florina rescues a tiny partridge or moor hen chick orphaned in a fox attack on its family''s nest. She cares for the chick, which is rejected by its domestic chicken cousins, and they become constant companions. The chick grows up and tries to fly off, and her family has to persuade her to release him back to the wild. She cries but does the right thing. This is an important lesson in wildcare for children.Florina climbs the snowy mountain to try to contact her little companion. In seeking him, she finds a gift from the mountain that she CAN keep - a beautiful crystal. When they leave at summer's end to return to their village, she takes the crystal back with her, as her bird says goodbye while flying off, free, with the other birds. The large, colorful pictures depict the pleasures of summertime in the high alps, the gorgeous scenery, the simple family life there, the freedom of the children's life, and as in all Carigiet's books, the wildlife and the domestic animals we share the world with. This is an inspiring book for children. Your children, even the smallest, will love it.
I ordered this book for my future grand kids ! I read it to my children in Switzerland , of course I had to translate it into English as I was reading it to them . I was very happy to find a English version.
